Grimes to Appear in Fall Ad Campaign for Adidas by Stella McCartney

MAKING MUSIC: Stella McCartney has received some celebrity reinforcement from the Canadian musician Grimes, who is featuring in the fall Adidas by Stella McCartney campaign.
A commitment to sustainability isn’t the only common denominator between the British designer and the Canadian musician. Three years ago Grimes joined Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon, Amanda Stenberg and Kenya Kinski-Jones in a video for McCartney’s Pop perfume video campaign. But it was Grimes who headlined that ad campaign, which was photographed by Glen Luchford. Born Claire Elise Boucher, Grimes is a self-taught musical and visual artist. The 31-year-old has become a familiar face on the fashion circuit.
As part of her ongoing effort to help reduce the environmental impact, McCartney chose an assortment of eco-friendly cutting-edge fabrics for the fall collection, but ones that are performance-oriented. Recycled polyester made with Parley Ocean Plastic, and regenerated Econyl yarn are among the options. To try to ensure the looks stand up during high-intensity workouts and unexpected or severe climate conditions, there are such enhancements as Adidas’ Boost, Climachill and Climalite.
The collection draws in part from McCartney’s fall runway, as evidenced by the combination of graphic prints, bold mesh, soft, blush color palette and earth tones. Consumers will find

KARDASHIAN, JENNER AND KLEIN?: Could Calvin Klein Inc. have the Kardashian/Jenner clan lined up for an upcoming ad campaign all about family?
According to sources, the Kardashian/Jenner family has been photographed for a Calvin Klein Underwear campaign. The series of images, which break in January, will feature all the Kardashian/Jenner women, from Kim and Kourtney to Khloé, Kendall and Kylie, along with mom Kris, said sources.  That’s hundreds of millions of social media followers in one fell swoop.
While reps for the Kardashians and Calvin Klein Inc. couldn’t be reached for comment this week, the concept fits well with Klein’s Our Family.#MyCalvins, an ongoing campaign this season.
The Our Family.#MyCalvins campaign kicked off with recording/visual artist Solange, alongside her personally curated cast of singers/songwriters including Kelela, Dev Hynes, Caroline Polachek and Adam Bainbridge of Kindness. The group was shot together as a “chosen” musical family, illustrating the overarching message of the campaign. Nautica is teaming with Urban Outfitters once again.
The brand has partnered with the youth retailer to create its third capsule collection. The eight-piece assortment includes graphic T-shirts, striped shirts, logo pants, an allover printed hoodie, a V-neck sweater, a hat and a reversible jacket. The collection retails from $ 28 to $ 149.
To promote the line, Nautica and Urban Outfitters tapped model Trè Samuels and musical duo The Onyx Violins to front the campaign.

This Is How Many Plus-Size Models Appear In September Issue Fashion Editorials

Sometimes it seems as though the fashion industry is more inclusive than ever before. In the past year, there’s been an increase in the number of mature models fronting ad campaigns and more people with disabilities on the runways of New York Fashion Week. Right now, eight black women are featured on September magazine covers

But there are definitely major strides to be made

We flipped through the September issue fashion editorials of seven major magazines — Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, W, Elle, Marie Claire, InStyle and Cosmopolitan — to see if we could find any plus-size models. 

The results weren’t great.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the average waist size for women aged 20 and over is 37.5 inches. Depending on which retail store you consult, this translates to a slightly different pant size, but all of them qualify as plus-size. (At Gap, a 37.5 inch waist is between a size 18 and a size 20, at Coldwater Creek it translates to roughly a size 16. At Lane Bryant, it’s about a size 18.) 

So, if the average woman is plus-size, why are there zero plus-size models in these fashion editorials?

Yeah, we’re not really sure either.

Brittney Griner, WNBA Star, And Fiancé Glory Johnson Appear On ‘Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta’

The wedding day of one of our favorite queer athletes is fast approaching!

Openly gay WNBA star Brittney Griner made headlines last August when she proposed to girlfriend Glory Johnson and documented the whole experience on Instagram. Now, Johnson is trying to find the perfect dress for the big day by appearing on the Atlanta edition of the popular TLC reality show “Say Yes To The Dress.”

“Being on the show was super exciting! I was nervous,” Griner told The Huffington Post, adding, “but I knew at the end of the day we would have a dress. It also let me know how real things are, when I saw Glory in her dress I just couldn’t keep the tears back!”

Griner was also recently named one of the top 100 black influencers of 2014 by Ebony, when she nabbed a spot on the magazine’s annual “Power List.”
