Starbucks Apologizes After Boycott Erupts Over Video of Black Men Arrested in Philadelphia Store

Starbucks has apologized after a boycott erupted over a video of two black men being arrested inside a Philadelphia store, which led to accusations of racism on social media.

As viral videos of the incident show, officers handcuffed the two men in a Starbucks location in Philadelphia’s downtown district on Thursday.

At one point in the video, a white man can be heard explaining that he was meeting with the men and describing the arrest situation with police officers as “ridiculous.”

Police Commissioner Richard Ross said in a Facebook video that employees at the coffee store called 911 to report two men who were trespassing. Ross explained that the officers were told the two men requested to use the restroom when they came into the store but were denied because they hadn’t made a purchase — a company policy. Ross said the men refused to leave, even when police asked them to depart the premises three times, and that the officers “did absolutely nothing wrong.”

“As an African American male, I am very aware of implicit bias; we are committed to fair and unbiased policing,” Ross said. “If a business calls and they say that ‘Someone is here that I no longer wish to be in my business,’ [officers] now have a legal obligation to carry out their duties and they did just that.”

“We apologize to the two individuals and our customers and are disappointed this led to an arrest,” Starbucks said in a statement shared on Twitter Saturday. “We take these matters seriously and clearly have more work to do when it comes to how we handle incidents in our stores. We are reviewing our policies and will continue to engage with the community and the police department to try to ensure these types of situations never happen in any of our stores.”

Still, as of Saturday evening, #BoycottStarbucks remained a top trending topic on Twitter.

Meek Mill Arrested for Reckless Endangerment in NYC

Meek Mill was arrested in New York Thursday night just hours after performing a politically-charged song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

PEOPLE confirms the 30-year-old rapper remains in police custody after being arrested at 10.15pm. He will be spending the night in Central Booking before facing a judge Friday morning.

The former boyfriend of Nicki Minaj was charged with reckless endangerment, a spokesman for the NYPD tells PEOPLE.

Mill was arrested after police saw video on Instagram of the star allegedly riding his quad bike “around the streets of Upper Manhattan” the previous evening.

Authorities allege the rapper was riding his bike in a dangerous manner.

Further video of the hip hop star being arrested surfaced online late Thursday, in which an officer can be heard telling Mill he has video of the star riding “up and down the street.”

The “All Eyes On You” star – born Robert Williams – was leaving a basketball game when he was pulled over while in a car and not on his quad.

Just hours earlier, Mill had performed his new single “YBA (Young Black America)” featuring The-Dream from his new album Wins & Losses.

The track reflects on the challenges of growing up “a black man in America” and issues with being targeted by law enforcement. The song also takes aim at Donald Trump.

Mill’s rep could not be immediately reached for comment.

Shia LaBeouf Arrested During Trump Performance Art Piece

We could all see this coming.

Shia LaBeouf was arrested during an alleged altercation at the site of his performance art pice title “He Will Not Divide Us” outside New York’s Museum of the Moving Image early Thursday.

The actor allegedly grabbed an unidentified 25-year-old man’s scarf, scratching his face, report both TMZ and the Associated Press. The man refused medical attention. LaBeouf was reportedly released a few hours later.

The project features a camera mounted outside the museum, where passers by are encouraged to say, “He will not divide us,” over and over, as many times as they wish. Although LaBeouf has simply called the project “anti-division,” it began on Donald Trump’s Inauguration Day and is planned to last the duration of Trump’s presidency.

According to a Twitter account calling itself “Unofficial He Will Not Divide Us,” the incident occurred after a man approached the actor and said, “Hitler did nothing wrong,” catching LaBeouf’s response on camera. It’s unclear how the video, which appears to be shot in daylight, was obtained.

The account also posted a clip from the project’s livestream showing NYPD officers approaching the actor at the museum.

Another video, however, claims a different event led to the arrest. Posted to YouTube by an anonymous user, it shows LaBeouf approaching a different man and leading him out of the picture.

“He Will Not Divide Us” has attracted plenty of other attention from Trump supporters and neo-Nazis. The actor’s arrest comes just a few days after an aggressive interaction with one disruptor. In a clip posted to the project’s Twitter page, LaBeouf shouts the project’s tagline in the face of a man who appears to reference a white supremacist slogan.

BuzzFeed News has also documented several instances where people who apparently organized on racist internet message boards have interacted with the project. The livestream has witnessed one man holding a picture of Pepe the Frog, a cartoon associated with white supremacy, and other people holding “Make American Great Again” signs.

The Huffington Post has reached out to LaBeouf’s representation and will update this post accordingly.

Judge Reinhold Arrested After Refusing Airport Security Search

Actor Judge Reinhold was arrested Thursday after refusing to submit to a security check at Dallas Love Field, police said.

Police officers led the 59-year-old Reinhold, who appeared in “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” and the “Beverly Hills Cop” movies, from the airport and took him to a detention center, where they charged him with disorderly conduct.

In the segment above, KCAL 9 reported that Reinhold took off his shirt and used explicit language during the incident.

Transportation Security Administration agents had asked Reinhold to submit to a pat-down, apparently setting off the actor, the Dallas Morning News reported. He was offered a private room and declined.

Reinhold was allegedly “antagonistic” to police officers when they arrived and they arrested him, the paper said.

“The officers responded and subsequently took the individual into custody after he refused to comply,” according to Dallas Police.

His attorney, Steve Stodghill, said the TSA scanner had cleared Reinhold to pass, but he was stopped when his bag set off an alarm, the Morning News wrote. Agents then asked to frisk him and Reinhold wanted to know why, given that he had already walked through the scanner without it going off.

Accompanied by cops, a handcuffed Reinhold told reporters, “Thanks for the exposure, guys. Appreciate it. Glad you’re here.”

Justin Bieber Opens Up To Complex Magazine About Being Arrested

Justin Bieber is Complex magazine’s latest cover star.

The 21-year-old, who was photographed by David Black for the mag, opens up about everything from his infamous arrest in Miami to how he deals with all the critics.

Speaking about that time he urinated in a bucket at a club, the Biebs said, “Honestly, I think the pissing in the bucket wasn’t as big as people made it seem. Just because, dude, think about it. Imagine, you hear that fucking Ozzy Osbourne pisses backstage. Immediately, ‘Oh, he’s a freaking rock star!’ As soon as I do it, ‘He’s being a brat.'”

He continued, “Dude, what is bratty about pissing in a bucket? I had to go piss — we all have to pee.” He has a point — we all do have to pee, but at least most of us have the decency to do it in a restroom, even if said restroom is on the opposite side of where we are.

The singer also called out the Miami police (who arrested and charged him for DUI and drag racing last year), saying, “they just wanted press.”

“I never was speeding; I never was drag racing … The cop supposedly wanted to be famous for arresting celebrities, and someone had heard him say that prior to that,” he said. “He was like, ‘Put your hands on the hood!’ I was like, what? I lifted my hands and I was like, ‘What do you mean, what’s going on?’ He was like, “I told you, put your hands on the hood! Now you’re under arrest for resisting arrest!'”

“I felt it, dude. I was just like, Oh, they’re trying to get me right now at any cost. I went in, and I’m telling you, that 24 hours sucked. It was really cold. That was the worst part.” Poor Biebs.

Arrested for Library Books

My father had a phenomenal ability to remain calm, especially having so many children in the house. Screaming and fights to the death were usually stopped easily by a quiet word from him, such as “OK guys, that’s about enough.” That was enough to stop anything going on, unlike mother who could be screaming louder and higher than dogs could hear, which did nothing. A quiet word from Daddy would. He rarely raised his voice. Except once.

2015-07-07-1436292595-9024916-bookfb.jpg

We were all at the beach except for Daddy. We were in the house down on St. Andrew’s Bay, playing, swimming, just having a fine time. I was in the house, and the phone rang.

“Hello.”

“Hello son, it’s Dad.”

I started out for a nice conversation with him and was summarily cut off.

“Please put your mother on the line… Now please,” he said in a quiet even tone.

He was much more curt than I had ever heard.

“Mama, Daddy’s on the phone”

Mama came to the phone, with a big smile on her face.

“Hello Sweetheart, how are you?

She started to listen and her smile began to fade. As she continued to listen, her smile turned into thin, pursed lips. Then they pressed together as her teeth were biting them from inside.

“Yes. About 30 minutes. Right, no problem.”

Mom got into gear. “Children, get everything, I don’t care if it’s wet, dry, throw it into bags, whatever you can find, we have to leave in 30 minutes to be back in Montgomery.”

We started asking questions and she said she would tell us later and just get going.

Once we had gotten everything in the car (it looked like we had loaded it with a pitchfork), we took off. Mother usually drove the speed limit. Not that day.

It seems that Daddy was having a nice Saturday. He loved to work in the yard, mow, tend the roses and he got to do it without all of us!

As he wheeled the mower around the edge of the yard, he noticed City of Montgomery Police cars pull up. He thought something must be wrong at the Coca-Cola Plant and they were coming to tell him. He shut off the mower, pushed the sweatband off of his forehead and walked over to the officers.

One spoke immediately. “Are you Gilbert William Hitchcock?” Daddy replied that he was. “May we please see your identification?” He happened to have his wallet in his pants and showed them his driver’s license.

“Mr. Hitchcock, you are under arrest. Anything you say may be used against you.” And they completed his Miranda Rights.

After they finished, Daddy asked them what in the world this was about.

“Mr. Hitchcock, our records show that you have 28 library books checked out in your name some of which are over five years overdue.”

Daddy thought a minute. “Library books? But I don’t even have a card.”

“The cards are in your name. Mr. Hitchcock, but it was actually your wife and children who took out the books.”

Daddy asked if he could make his one phone call and they said yes. He called the Chief of Police who happened to be one of his best friends. As Chief Swindall tried to restrain his laughter when Daddy told him the story, he asked to speak to the officers. Daddy could hear their end of the conversation.

“Well yes sir, you are right, he does look like a dangerous criminal, but I agree that this is a low charge and we can release him here on his own recognizance as per your authority. Yes Sir. Yes Sir. Thank you Sir.”

The policemen informed Daddy that he was not under arrest, but would need to appear in court on “X” date to handle this.

About three hours later, our Ford LTD Wagon pulled into the driveway. Daddy immediately presented us with a list of the books that were outstanding.

“I first want ALL of the library cards brought to me, including yours he said,” pointing to mother. “Then I want this house turned upside down until they are all found.” I noticed that he didn’t even grin.

We found the books and were spared Mother’s wrath as she herself had four books outstanding. Daddy returned the books, paid the fine, cancelled Christmas that year, went to court, and all was fine.

Three months later, two City of Montgomery cars pulled up, the officers got out of their car and rang the doorbell. “Are you Gilbert William…”

Somehow the warrant had not been expunged from the system, Daddy again called Chief Swindall, was read his rights, had to go BACK to court where they apologized for their error.

We were not allowed to even read the labels on cans for two years.

Nicholas Brendon, ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’ Actor, Arrested In Idaho

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An actor best known for his role in the television series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” is apologizing for actions that led to his arrest in a hotel lobby in southwest Idaho.

Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander Harris on the hit show that ran from 1997 to 2003, said Monday on Facebook that he erred by mixing prescribed pain medication and alcohol. “The result was embarrassing and unacceptable,” he wrote. “I intend to seek appropriate treatment and therapy for my medical ailments as well as my emotional demons.”

He said the physical pain came from a cyst behind his kneecap, but he didn’t elaborate on the cause of the emotional demons.

Brendon was participating in the Tree City Comic Con at a Boise expo center where fans could have a photo taken with him for $ 40 and get his autograph for $ 30.

Boise officers took the 43-year-old actor into custody after responding to a disturbance around 9:30 p.m. Friday. Brendon faces misdemeanor charges of resisting officers and malicious injury to property.

Police say Brendon showed signs of being intoxicated and refused to remain seated while officers spoke with witnesses. Hotel officials say Brendon broke a decorative dish and they want to press charges. Authorities in a statement Saturday said Brendon was booked in the Ada County Jail and released after posting bond.

“During this difficult time, I appreciate understanding as I pursue rehabilitation — and I value support as I earn redemption with my family, friends, and fans,” Brendon wrote in the statement confirmed as his by his booking agent, Kahmeela Adams, in an email to The Associated Press.

This was the first year for the Tree City Comic Con that besides Brendon drew an array writers, illustrators and other actors, including John Rhys-Davies who was Gimli in “Lord of the Rings,” Nichelle Nichols who played Lt. Uhura in “Star Trek: The Original Series,” and Verne Troyer, who played Mini Me in “Austin Powers.”

Event organizers didn’t return a phone call from the AP on Monday.

Tim Zickuhr Arrested: ‘Ice Road Truckers’ Star Accused of Kidnapping And Beating Prostitute

Tim Zickuhr, one of the drivers on History’s reality TV show “Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads,” is accused of kidnapping, beating and threatening to kill a Las Vegas prostitute named Snow White, according to multiple media reports.

Zickuhr, who appears in the second season of the “Ice Road Truckers” spinoff, allegedly hired the prostitute in December and gave her his ATM card, telling her to withdraw the money for her services, The Hollywood Reporter said, citing court papers.

But she reportedly took out too much money.

I only withdrew the $ 80 I was supposed to and an additional $ 120 that I wasn’t,” Snow White, real name Lisa Cadeau, said in an email to the New York Daily News.

Zickuhr allegedly went door to door looking for Cadeau, she said in her email. When he finally caught up to her, Zickuhr demanded $ 1,000, she said.

At various points during the ordeal that followed, Zickuhr allegedly beat her, tied her up with backpack straps, poured cold water over her from a mop bucket, locked her in a closet and forced her to jump from a second-floor window and onto a carport, according to a police report cited by multiple media outlets.

She told the Daily News that she gave him $ 300. When she couldn’t pay the rest, he demanded the number of someone who could. That’s when Cadeau, who had been a “citizen source” for police, gave him the number of a cop who had told her to call if she was ever in trouble, the Las Vegas Sun reports.

Zickuhr, not knowing he was speaking to a police officer, said that if he didn’t get the money, “he was going to go to Mexico to kill Snow White,” according to an arrest report cited by KVVU-TV.

Then, he put Cadeau on the line.

“Help me, he’s going to kill me,” she reportedly said.

Police say that when arrested, Zickuhr “immediately admitted that he made a mistake,” adding that he had planned to put an ad for her on Craigslist and force her to have sex for money for his benefit, according to the Sun.

Cadeau suffered injuries to her face and arms as well as cuts on her wrist where she had been tied up.

In a promotional video for “Ice Road Truckers: Deadliest Roads,” Zickuhr described himself as “an adrenaline junkie” and said “the action is the juice for me.”

He also called himself an “outlaw,” something that could soon be true in a very literal sense as he faces charges of kidnapping, extortion and coercion.

His next court appearance is scheduled for May 6.
