What you say to someone can change everything

When we talk openly and honestly about mental health, we make it possible for everyone to find the support and care they need to feel better. Conversations connect people. They can spread hope and build strength.

We’re all grappling with emotions created by the COVID-19 pandemic and the social, economic, and health challenges associated with it. A recent study found depression symptom rates in U.S. adults are 3 times higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

At times like this, support and resources that can help us cope and bounce back quickly are vital. Still, it can be hard to talk about mental health issues, even with loved ones. Our updated Find Your Words website is designed to help everyone start that conversation.

Find Your Words — Kaiser Permanente’s public health awareness effort to normalize talking about mental health — features information to help everyone learn how to start conversations, connect to helpful tools and online communities, and find support for themselves and the people they care about, including young children and teenagers. There’s information on how to build resilience and reduce stress, screening tools to inform further conversations about diagnosis and treatment, and new ways to share inspiring stories, videos, and artwork from the site with others.

Finding the courage to start a mental health conversation may not be easy, but it has never been more important. Visit findyourwords.org or encuentraquedecir.org to learn about all the ways you can support yourself, your loved ones, and your community.
